Exams Guidelines and Information

Exams will occur based on each students course period in the day. For example:

SECTION/PERIOD	EXAM DAY
Week 1 – Section 10/Period 1 Classes	Day 1 – Wednesday, 21 January
Week 1 – Section 20/Period 2 Classes	Day 2 – Thursday, 22 January
Week 1 – Section 30/Period 3 Classes	Day 3 – Friday, 23 January
Week 1 – Section 40/Period 4 Classes	Day 4 – Monday, 26 January

All exams will be occurring in the morning, beginning promptly at 8:10 am. If students need to remain at school for the afternoon, all students will be asked to sit, supervised, in the cafeteria.

All school buses will be running according to their regular daily schedule, leaving at the end of the day at 2:00pm. Cafeteria services will not be open during exams.

In the event of a school closure, the exam schedule will be postponed with notice to families and written on the next school day. All remaining exams will then be shifted and written one day later.

Exam Attendance - Examinations are clearly marked on the school calendar. Students are expected to write exams during these time periods. If a student is absent for an examination, they must prove that the absence was unavoidable. If necessary, the school will arrange alternate examinations for illness or other extenuating circumstances. In the case where the absence is deemed to be not legitimate, the exam mark shall be zero. The report card grade shall reflect its impact and the credit could be jeopardized.

Credit Completion Day

This will occur on Wednesday, 28 January 2025. Only those students contacted by their teachers will attend (in person or online) to do final credit completion work.

The graduation ceremony for Donald A. Wilson Secondary School will be held on Friday, June 30th at 9:00am at Durham College - Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre located at 2000 Simcoe St. N, Oshawa.

Graduates are asked to arrive at Durham College - Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (GYMS 1 & 2) by 8:15am and follow the signs to the designated graduate areas. Graduates will enter the gym in a processional at 9:00am sharp.

Requested Dress Code: Students are to bring their pre-purchased cap and gown to the ceremony with them.

It is advised that graduates leave any valuables such as bags or jackets with their families as there is no place to store personal items during the ceremony.

A message to the Students and Parents/Guardians/Caregivers of Donald A Wilson Secondary School,

Buses in all zones have been cancelled.

All of today’s Period 1 exams have been cancelled and will be shifted to tomorrow - Friday, 27 January 2023.

Period 2 Exams will run Monday, 30 January 2023.

Period 3 Exams will run Tuesday, 31 January 2023.

Period 4 Exams will run Wednesday, 1 February 2023.

Credit Completion Day will remain Thursday, 2 February 2023 at this time.

Students and families are advised to stay home as navigating this weather is treacherous.

Online Learning Graduation Requirement and Opt-out Process

This year the Ministry introduced PPM 167 to provide direction to Ontario schools on the implementation of the online learning graduation requirement and opt-out process. Beginning with the cohort of students who entered Grade 9 in the 2020-21 school year, all students must earn a minimum of two online learning credits as part of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma unless they have been opted out or exempted.
